COLORADO SPRINGS -- University of Colorado basketball players Mandy Nightingale and Jenny Roulier have been invited to attend the 2001 USA Basketball Women's National Team Trials, which will be held May 18-21 in Colorado Springs.

The trials will be used to select the 12-member USA Women's World University Games Team. The invitation is the first of Nightingale's career while Roulier will be making her second trip to the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Nightingale and Roulier, Colorado's starting guards for the last two seasons, were third-team All-Big 12 selections last season and helped lead the Buffaloes to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Nightingale led the Buffs in scoring, assists and minutes played during the 2000-01 season, and was named the team's most valuable defensive player. Roulier, who attended tryouts for the R. William Jones Cup Team last summer at the USOTC, was CU's leading scorer in conference play and is considered the Buffaloes' most creative player offensively.

"Jenny and I are really excited and have been working very hard to be ready for it," said Nightingale. "We hope to go there and play to our potential and it will be a great experience for both of us. Jenny probably knows more of what to expect, since it is her second time, so I'm just looking forward to playing against new players and learning new things to work on."

"I'm very excited to go and compete for a spot on the team," said Roulier. "It's great to have an opportunity to play ball in the summertime to work on skills and compete at such a high level. Practicing with players of this caliber is very exciting, and I'm sure Mandy and I will get a lot out of it."

Five other players from the Big 12 have been invited to attend. They include LaNeishea Caufield and Caton Hill of Oklahoma, Danielle Crockrom and Sheila Lambert of Baylor and Kerensa Barr of Missouri.
