COLORADO SPRINGS -- Colorado guard Jenny Roulier has been named to the United States World University Games team, USA Basketball announced Monday.
The 5-9 senior-to-be from Cherry Creek earned her first USA Basketball national team assignment. Mandy Nightingale, her backcourt mate, was named an alternate to the squad and will join the team in the event of an injury to another player on the squad.
"I'm just really excited," Roulier said. "I think it's a great honor to be selected to make this team. You know it's going to be fun, and I plan on just representing us in the best way that I can."
Roulier is a two-year starter and twice has been chosen third-team all-Big 12 for Colorado head coach Ceal Barry. She led Colorado in scoring during conference play last season and is 17 points shy of becoming CU's 18th 1,000-point scorer.
Roulier is the first CU player to be named to a USA Basketball team since 1996, when Erin Scholz was chosen for the U.S. Select team.
"Last year I came here, tried out and I was disappointed," Roulier said. "I was determined to come back and get myself focused, ready mentally, physically and emotionally."
Known for her offense, Roulier said she struggled with her shot during the four days of the trials involving 33 players.
"I think I started out pretty strong and then kind of tapered off a little bit," she said. "My shot wasn't falling as much, but I tried to do little things, play defense, talk, and I think it turned out for the best."
