BOULDER - With the exception of some unconfirmed dates, the schedules for the University of Colorado men's and women's basketball teams are complete, and both carry a sense of familiarity. The men face five teams they played last season, while the women could play at least that many and possibly Vanderbilt, the team that knocked them out of the NCAA Tournament in March.
The toughest game for the men should be at St. Joseph's (Pa.), a team that went to the NCAA Tournament and returns Marvin O'Connor, its scoring machine of a guard. The Buffaloes completed a home-and-home series with games at California and St. Mary's last season but will extend both series with dates in Boulder this winter.
CU's annual game with Colorado State takes place in Fort Collins this season, and after a campaign without Regis on his schedule, coach Ricardo Patton welcomes the Denver school back to the Coors Events Center.
Jose Winston returns with the Wisconsin-Milwaukee team where he transferred when he decided to leave CU in March, though he will not play. All NCAA Division I transfers must take a mandatory redshirt season. Completing the men's schedule are Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Wagner, Montana, Southern and Morris Brown.
Depending upon how the games turn out, the CU women could end up facing Vanderbilt in the preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Even without the perennially strong Commodores, the women will face four teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago: Colorado State in Fort Collins, Florida in Gainesville, Louisiana State in Lubbock, Texas, and Iowa at home. The Buffs played CSU, Florida and Iowa last season, along with Wyoming and UCLA, which both return to their schedule.
The Buffs will play a second in-state opponent when they host the Air Force Academy.
